october 2005 knits

« september 2005 | | november 2005 »

Hooray, it's almost swap day!

Attention all Knitsmiths: don't forget about the swap this Sunday. Remember, it's not at the Booksmith. Check the Google Group website for directions. And Thea is looking for a headcount of how many folks will be coming, so she can be sure to have enough chairs. Please send her a quick RSVP if you can to let her know if you're coming!

Nancy finally got to bind off her beautiful lacy Kid Silk Haze scarf this week! She says that the knitting has been torturous at times, but we all think the result is incredible. Well done, Nancy!

Shireen finished her cotton angora cardigan and it fits perfectly!

She also brought in her finished Bamboo ruffles scarf....

...and her weasley sweater in progress.

Wow, Shireen, way to make the rest of us look bad! (Wink, wink.)

Dava's back! And she's working on an afghan in Rowan Cork.

Talk about squooshy yarn! Cork is so fabulous.

Jess and Maya made it out to Knitsmiths - hooray!

Jess is working on a gorgeous lace shawl project using Aurora 8. The yarn is so soft and squooshy.

Emily came in this week wearing the prettiest multidirectional scarf I've ever seen.

It gets skinnier around the neck, which gives it a long, elegant look. And I love the soft, fluffy yarn!

This week we had a wonderful presentation of readings from Knit Lit 3. We love this series!

I snapped a pic just as editor, Linda Roghaar, was saying goodbye to the group, which was still knitting, of course!

And here's Silvia in her latest and greatest creation, a Jo Sharp sweater in her DK Tweed. I love the twisted stitch detail on the sides!

This week, Emily wore her amazing Moorish pullover (from Interweave Knits Winter 2003 in Manos. I love it when sweater season returns and we get to see everyone in their best sweaters, like this one from Emily, again.

Gina's kids dyed this yarn all by themselves with Kool-Aid and now she's knitting socks for them with it. How cool is that?!

Mary Linda's Manos scarf looks like a carpet of brilliant jewels. I am always amazed at how well the simple garter stitch shows off the beautiful yarns she chooses.

Look at new Knitsmith, Diana's first project!

It's a garter stitch scarf in Jo Sharp's Silkroad Aran, a Knitsmiths' favorite yarn.

Tanya is making a dinosaur sweater for her son. Wow!

Dani is working on Jo Sharp's mohair singlet in a beautiful blue. And speaking of beautiful blues, here's some of Dani's own hand-painted yarn that fellow Knitsmith, Susan, just bought.

Claire's just finishing this super sweet Sirdar baby hat. Still to come: her trademark squiggles on top!

Lisa and I made it back from Rhineback just in time to catch the last hour of Knitsmiths this week. And look at all the knitting that she got done while we were gone.

She cast on for this Opal sock right before we left and now she's almost up to the toe!

Knitsmith News:

Please note, the Knitsmiths email address has changed. The new address is listed at the bottom of the right sidebar.

Sunday, October 23 will be readings from Knit Lit 3! Readers include our own Norah and knitting is encouraged. Hope to see you there.

Sunday, October 30 will be our next swap! Due to space issues, the swap will not be held at the Booksmith, so don't expect to see any of us there that week. Check the Knitsmiths's Google group site for info on the new location. Yeah, swap!

I brought back some chocolate Kinder eggs from Germany for all my fellow knitters. We got SpongeBob toys!

We've had a warm spell here and got to see one of Johanna's wonderful summer tanks.

Look at how cleverly the waist shaping is done!

Her current project is this fabby t-shirt sweater in a new handpainted alpaca yarn called Atacama. Purty.

Shireen is doing great on her first pair of socks. But check out the difference in the two skeins of Lorna's Laces! Same colorway, same dye lot, but not quite the same color. Hmmmm.....
